Long Hair, Sunday Vibes: My Secret to Instant Boho-Western Glam

Happy Sunday, friends!

If there is one thing you know about my style, it’s that I’m all about the "vibe." Whether I’m pulling together five outfits for a marathon content session or just heading out for a weekend coffee, the hair has to match the energy of the outfit.

Lately, I’ve been leaning hard into my Boho-Western aesthetic—think wide-brim hats, flowy dusters, and turquoise accents. But there’s one accessory that ties it all together every single time: my clip-in hair extensions.

Why Clip-ins are My Sunday Style Essential

I’ve always loved the look of long, cascading hair—especially when it’s peeking out from under a classic cowboy hat. While I’m incredibly dedicated to my long-term hair health journey (shoutout to my Monat routine for keeping my natural strands strong!), sometimes your hair isn't quite at the length you want today.

Clip-ins are my quick, easy fix. They give me that instant glow-up without the commitment or the damage of permanent extensions.

My Personal Choice: BarleyXtensions

I get asked all the time which ones I use, and I’m currently obsessed with my BarleyXtensions in 20" Dark Brown.

If you're looking for these, you can actually find the brand at Sally Beauty, though they usually have a smaller selection in-store. I personally purchased mine online from the actual BarleyXtensions store—their promos are fantastic, and you can usually snag a great deal if you keep an eye out!

Because these are high-quality, real hair extensions, I treat them just like my own. I have curled, straightened, and washed mine countless times, and they still have that gorgeous movement.

  • The Wash: I don’t use anything fancy or extra. I use my regular Monat soap to keep them clean and soft. If it’s good enough for my natural hair, it’s good enough for my extensions!

  • Custom Color: I actually recently colored mine to keep the blend perfect. I use Madison Reed for an all-over cover, and in-between those full color sessions, I swear by their Root Perfection to keep everything seamless.

The Stylist’s Secret: Tips for the Perfect Blend

Getting your extensions to look like they’re actually growing out of your head takes a little bit of strategy. Here are my top secrets for making sure your Sunday style looks seamless:

  • The "Un-Trimmed" Edge: Here is a secret most people won’t tell you—extensions actually blend much better if your natural hair isn't freshly trimmed! If your ends are too blunt or "perfect," the transition to the extensions can look like a harsh line. A little bit of natural texture or slightly feathered ends helps those clips disappear into your hair for a much more organic, boho look.

  • The Power of Heat Styling: Since I use real hair extensions, I always style them with my natural hair using a curling wand or flat iron. Adding a loose, beachy wave to both your natural hair and the extensions at the same time "marries" the two textures together. Just remember to use a good heat protectant first!

Sunday Reflection

Style is about more than just the clothes; it’s about how you feel when you put it all together. Today, I’m feeling long-haired, confident, and ready to take on the week.

If you're just looking for a little extra "oomph" for your Sunday best, remember that it’s okay to use a few "tricks of the trade" while you work toward your long-term goals.
