Whether you’re planning a special Mother’s Day brunch or just want to romanticize your any morning, this French Toast is the answer. It’s decadent, incredibly flavorful, and—best of all—easy to whip up.
I’m a "measure with your heart" kind of cook, so this recipe is very generous with the vanilla and cinnamon. Trust me, your kitchen is about to smell like heaven!
I’ve linked my favorite Trader Joe’s staples for you below! Just a heads-up: the specific Braided & Sliced Brioche I used for this recipe isn't currently listed on their website, so I’ve linked their Chocolate Chip Brioche as the next best thing. Honestly, the chocolate version would be a total dream with this vanilla bourbon custard, but if you can find the plain braided loaf in-store, grab it!
The Ingredients (Serving for One)
Bread: 2 thick slices of Trader Joe’s Braided Brioche.
The Custard: 2 eggs (room temperature is key!), a splash of almond milk, 1 tsp cinnamon, and 1–2 tbsp of Bourbon Vanilla Bean Paste.
For the Pan: A generous pat of butter.
The Toppings: Fresh blackberries, raspberries, sliced bananas, and a very generous drizzle of Organic Vermont Maple Syrup.
On the Side: 2 slices of TJ’s Turkey Bacon and crispy shredded hash browns also from TJ's.
The Method
Prep Your Eggs: Start by taking your eggs out of the fridge about 30 minutes before you’re ready to cook. Room-temperature eggs incorporate so much better into the custard!
Whisk it Up: In a shallow bowl, whisk your eggs, cinnamon, almond milk, and that gorgeous vanilla bourbon paste. Don’t be shy with the vanilla—it makes the dish.
The Sizzle: Melt your butter in a pan (I’m using my favorite Our Place pan). Wait until the butter is just starting to turn a golden brown.
The Soak: Coat both sides of your brioche slices in the egg mixture. Place them in the pan and then pour any leftover custard right over the top of the bread so it soaks up every bit of flavor.
Cook to Perfection: Flip once the bottom is golden and caramelized.
Style & Serve: Plate it up with your fresh berries and bananas. Pour over that maple syrup—be generous! —and serve alongside your turkey bacon, hash browns, and a hot cup of coffee.

There is something so intentional about slowing down to make a beautiful breakfast. Whether you’re surprising Mom with a tray in bed or just treating yourself to a quiet, delicious morning, I hope this recipe adds a little extra sweetness to your day. You deserve the "generous" pour of syrup and the extra splash of vanilla—always!
Enjoy!
