The Western Edge: How I Style My Skirt Collection

Updated: May 14

We all love the flow of a good skirt, but there’s a fine line between "whimsical" and "grounded." My heart is in the Boho-Western aesthetic—a style that balances the softness of a silhouette with the grit of the West.

With The Skirt Drop now live, I’m sharing my personal formula for styling these pieces, so they feel authentic, rugged, and ready for a long summer day.

1. Ground the Flow (From Boots to Flip Flops)

The anchor of this look is the footwear.

  • The Power Move: For that true western edge, a pointed-toe boot is my go-to. It gives the fabric weight and attitude.

  • The Summer Pivot: Let’s be real—when the heat hits, I’m reaching for my flip flops. It keeps the look effortless and grounded, perfect for those long summer afternoons when you’re moving from the studio to the backyard.

2. Layer with Intention (The Lace & The Oversized)

Style is all about what’s hidden and what’s revealed.

  • The Sheer Factor: If a skirt feels a bit too "open" or you just want that extra dimension, I love layering a Free People lace slip over the piece. It provides coverage while keeping the look airy and editorial. If you want to show off your skirt but not what's underneath, these seamless boy shorts are perfect! For a shorter length, I wear these and work perfectly, the price is perfect!

  • Top it Off: Balance the slim waist of the skirt with an oversized shirt, a classic denim jacket, or a cozy long or short cardigan.

3. Define with Texture

Texture is where the "Western" really comes to life.

  • To keep these flowing pieces from feeling oversized, structure is your best friend. Defining the waist is the secret to making a boho look feel intentional.

    • The Statement Move: Add a wide leather belt with a statement buckle—think silver, turquoise, or copper. By defining the natural waist, you create a classic silhouette that feels polished and powerful rather than just "loose."

    • The Soft Touch: If you want a look that feels a bit more luxe and summery, reach for a suede belt. It provides that same essential shape but with a softer texture that pairs beautifully with the movement of the skirts.

  • The Mix: Pair your skirt with a structured felt hat or layers of turquoise. The goal is to look curated, like your outfit has a story to tell.

Why It Works

This collection was built for the woman who moves fast. Whether you're in boots for a production block or flip flops for a grocery run, these layers ensure you look pulled together without trying too hard.
