A Tribute to the Hands That Create

I learned how to sew without ever having a formal lesson. I learned by watching my mama. I spent my life watching her hands move rhythmically at the machine—creating everything from my childhood costumes to hemming my dad’s pants with a quick, expert stitch.

I can still see her at the machine, licks of her index finger and thumb smoothing out the thread to guide it through that tiny needle hole with a steady eye. I was always amazed at how she could take a flat piece of fabric and turn it into something with shape and life. I’d watch in pure curiosity as she’d pick out the textiles, lay out the patterns, and cut the fabric with exact precision before pinning it all together. Then came the sewing—there was something so grounding about the subtle hum of the machine filling the room.

From the countless baby blankets she made with that thoughtful blanket binding, to the custom dresses, sets, and little jackets she crafted just for me—she was shaping my world. Looking back, I realize that’s where my deep love for fashion and my obsession with a perfect skirt set truly began. Even when the thread would snap or the needle would jam, she just kept going—teaching me that every stitch holds a story and every textile has a soul.

It only felt right to launch this dream on a day that honors the woman who unknowingly gave it to me.

The Skirt Drop will officially go live on May 10th—Mother’s Day.

These pieces were designed to be as versatile as they are soulful. I love styling them as a maxi skirt with a belt and boots, but they’re just as beautiful pulled up and worn as a breezy maxi dress. There’s really no wrong way to wear them, and that versatility is a huge part of why I love them so much. If you want a deeper look at the inspiration and the textile journey that led us here, be sure to head back and check out my first post, "From the Wardrobe Room: Something Soulful is Coming," where I break down the heart and history that started it all.

These one-of-a-kind vintage skirts are a tribute to that heritage of "making." They are hand-finished, storied, and extremely limited. Because each textile is a found treasure with its own history, no two skirts in this collection are exactly the same. Once a specific textile is cut and a skirt is claimed, it’s gone for good. This isn't mass production; it’s about owning a piece of storied history that belongs only to you.

So, thank you in advance for being here and seeing this come to life—seeing what my mama taught me.

To my mom, thank you.

Stay soulful, Ali
